Lucas Hooker learns how to build shelves to transform newspaper vending machines, donated by the Finger Lakes Times, into Community Book Boxes! Harold Bush and Jean Currie were awarded a mini-grant to create 6 free mini-libraries to be placed around the STEPS neighborhood. Once the shelves were completed, the boxes were primed by local youth involved in the LIFT program at the Edith B. Ford Library. Local high school students from Romulus CSD and South Seneca CSD painted the boxes. On January 18, 2016 Harold, Jean and resident volunteers filled three boxes and delivered them throughout the STEPS neighborhood. Thanks to Mark's Pizzeria, Romulus Presbyterian Church and Trumansburg Dollar General for donating space and supporting community literacy. Three more book boxes will be out in the neighborhood in the very near future.
