*Chair Yoga classes at the Edith B. Ford Library in Ovid! Congratulations to Jean Larison and Sally Eller for being awarded a mini-grant to provide yoga classes once a week for 10 weeks starting on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 2:15 to 3:15 pm. Chair Yoga offers gentle stretching for better balance and flexibility along with mindfulness and meditation. Contact the library for more information and to register for the class.
*Food, Fun & Family mini-grant awarded to Deb Bush and Meg Jastran! Other residents assisting with this project are Donna Anderson, Linda Pacelli-Dixon, Phyllis Motill and Jessica Elliott. Come join the cooking classes to be held at the Ovid Fire Hall from 10:00 am to Noon, on January 30th, February 27th and March 12th. Child care will be provided.
*Another mini-grant awarded! Lillian Morrow and Jennifer Muzzy partnered with the Edith B. Ford Library to offer a free 10-week Zumba class at the library starting February 1st. Willard resident Danielle Letina will instruct the Monday classes from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. The class participants will be encouraged to complete self-guided exercise using the library DVD collection as well. This is a great way to work on your 2016 exercise goals and meet new neighbors!
*Thanks to Meg Jastran and Tina Coville-Bauder for organizing a Day of Service to be held on Martin Luther King Day. This mini-grant project brings residents together to work on projects that organizations have identified as needed. Work will take place at The Three Bears, Backbone Ridge History Center and the 3 neighborhood libraries. Caring and taking pride in the community in which you live is a hallmark of a healthy neighborhood. -press release
*Free CPR AED course offered in Ovid! South Seneca High School seniors Nathaniel Bauder and Marlena Jones partnered with Bruce Boatman, Jake Hartman and Bill Lathrup to design and implement a mini-grant funded project to teach adults CPR, AED use and how to relieve chocking on an adult. The class is scheduled on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the South Seneca Ambulance Corps. on Route 96A in Ovid.-press release
*Congratulations to residents Mary Joslyn, John Arena, Terry Evans, Gina Thomas and Katie Kerry for the mini-grant award for the Currier & Ives Festival! The event is scheduled for December 5th at Trader's Village on Route 89 in Romulus. Follow STEPS facebook page for information as the project develops.
*Mini-grant awarded for Community Book Boxes! Harold Bush from Ovid and Jean Currie from Interlaken are working with local youth to refurbish newspaper vending boxes, donated by The Finger Lakes Times, into free mini-libraries. The 6 Community Book Boxes will be placed throughout the STEPS community this fall.- press release
*Lodi Food Pantry - the Lodi Food Hub is a group of residents led by Lodi farmer Barb Smith. Their inaugural food pantry took place on the 4th of July and they now open every Saturday from 3-5 pm at the Lodi Library. Those with extra food or produce to share can drop it off from 9 am-3 pm at the Lodi Library any Saturday as well - Facebook page
