Community Gardens

Interlaken Community Veggie Patch
Planted in 2019, this delightful space (pictured above) is located across Main Street from Interlaken's public library and maintained by local residents. Crops fall into 3 categories that are labelled: some are picked and "free-for-the-taking;" some are "U-pick;" and some are donated to the Interlaken Food Pantry.  Everyone is welcome to participate. Contact Meg Jastran (607) 844-4572 or Donna Levy <[email protected]> if you're interested.

Ovid Community Garden

For pictures of Ovid Community Garden, see slide show below.
This large community garden is within walking distance from the Village of Ovid, near the water tower off County Rd 139.
It has an "Outdoor Classroom" attended by South Seneca students, a large perennial flower garden, lovely murals,  access to water, a secure fence, and many raised beds. A resident will reserve a bed, tend it on their own schedule, and then harvest the produce they grow in it. These popular beds are usually reserved in the late Summer or Fall, but sometimes there are still a couple of beds available the following Spring. If you're interested in reserving one, please contact STEPS at (607) 241- 1220 or <[email protected]>.

Some of the Ovid Community Garden's ground rules include:
  • Bring your own tools.
  • Harvest only what you grow.
  • Please stay out of the village barn.
  • No dogs allowed in the garden.
  • Make sure the gate is securely shut behind you, to keep out critters. v

 Gardening is Healthy & Fun
Through community gardening, you can stay physically active, put hands in the earth, connect with nature, build community ties, and increase the production of nutritious, fresh produce for your family and friends. Time spent outdoors improves mental health too.  Get some sunlight and fresh air!

Beyond all the benefits of gardening, we know many of you truly rely on food that you grow. With the increase in food prices, gardening is becoming an essential skill.

With gratitude for all you do to make the community a better place.
     Happy Gardening!

Lodi Community Garden
This garden (pictured above) is located behind the Lodi Whittier Library. It feeds the "Lodi Food 4 All" food pantry, utilized by hundreds of families in our area. Volunteers of all ages are needed and welcome. Community gardening is fun, social, and healthy for you, too!
